 India's first dengue vaccine approved


India's drug regulatory authority has approved the Kydenga vaccine against dengue for use.

The dengue vaccine has been approved in India. The vaccine named Kydenga, developed by a Japanese company against the dengue virus, has been approved for use in India.


Developed by Japanese pharmaceutical company Takeda Pharmaceuticals, this vaccine has been approved by India's drug regulatory authority Central Drug Standards and Organization (CDACO).


The Kydenga vaccine is said to provide protection against all four types of dengue virus serotypes 1, 2, 3 and 4.



Like the COVID-19 vaccine, it requires two doses. The second dose should be given three months after the first dose. This vaccine, which can be given to people aged 4 to 60 years, can also be given to those who have not had dengue.


This vaccine, which is currently being produced in India, currently costs between Rs 6,000 and Rs 12,000 per dose.


The price is expected to come down in the future with large-scale production.


Developed in 2022, the vaccine has been approved by 43 countries around the world. More than 32 million doses have been distributed worldwide.


India is one of the countries with the highest dengue infections in the world. In 2025, about 113,000 dengue infections were confirmed. The company claims that in the trials conducted so far, this vaccine has played a role in reducing the risk of dengue infection and hospitalization due to dengue.


Dengue infection has emerged as a major health problem in Nepal in recent years. Although there have been discussions and discussions about bringing the vaccine to Nepal, no decision has been made.
